The Arc of New Mexico Programs

The principles of self-determination have been incorporated into the ongoing programs and long-standing services and supports that The Arc of New Mexico has provided for many years.

Personal Representation:

•Through nearly thirty years of guardianship support for persons who have no family or other assistance,
•Through the careful planning and identification of residential and day services to assist people in moving from institutions to the community,
•Through continued support for individuals to develop new and full lives in communities throughout New Mexico,
•Through advocacy for individuals and families seeking help with benefits, jobs and improved services,
•Through justice advocacy and training for persons with developmental disabilities involved with the criminal justice system,
•Through personal futures planning,
•Through support for individuals seeking to direct their own lives and make their own choices.


Public Policy & Systems Advocacy:

•Insures that all people with developmental disabilities are able to lead valued, satisfied lives.
•Promotes self-direction and self-determination for all people in New Mexico,
•Insures equitable care and services for persons with developmental disabilities,
•Continues efforts to eliminate the waiting list for Medicaid funded developmental disability waiver services,
•Trains individuals, families and communities on strategies for influencing public policy.


Empowerment & Community Building:

•Creates community resources to support self-direction and self-determination,
•Offers education and information about person-centered, individually-driven services and support options,
•Trains individuals, families and professionals to use self-directed, intentional supports,
•Increases public awareness of The Arc and its programs and activities,
•Sponsors and develops self-advocacy groups around the state.
