Anthony

In Anthony, down along the border of New Mexico, the Community MAP coalition supports families who are bilingual or speak only Spanish.  Anthony is a very small town located in Dona Ana County and is only eighteen miles from the border of Mexico.  The surrounding area is agricultural and the majority of the residents speak Spanish.

Priscilla Salinas is the Southern New Mexico Advocate for The Arc of New Mexico.  She has been with The Arc for five years and advocates primarily on behalf of school-aged students and their families.  Priscilla began her journey as an advocate for her sixteen-year-old son Joseph, when he was born with developmental disabilities and is inspired by him to improve the life of individuals with disabilities in their community.

Priscilla is bilingual in English and Spanish; this has been instrumental in her ability to help others with similar issues.  She began by attending Listening Partnerships while her son was in Early Intervention and started a support group for parents in that program.
