If You Need Help

Assistance With Developmental Disability Services

The Arc of New Mexico provides information about developmental disabilities services in New Mexico, including the developmental disabilities waiver program as well as state-funded programs and resources.  The Arc can direct individuals to services and programs for adults, families and children; benefits, need for and alternatives to guardianship, trusts and future planning, self-advocacy, self-direction and self-determination.

The Arc of New Mexico provides advocacy, information and referral services about a wide range of topics related to developmental disabilities.  Advocates are available by phone or e-mail to answer questions, find information and if necessary, refer callers to other programs, services and resources that may better meet their needs.

In addition to providing advocacy about general services and supports, The Justice Advocacy Program At The Arc assists individuals with developmental disabilities who become involved with the criminal justice system to locate alternatives to incarceration and identify more appropriate treatment. In addition to individual assistance, the Justice Advocate provides training around the state to police, probation and parole officers, attorneys, correctional personnel, providers, families and individuals about developmental disabilities and diversion.

The Arc of New Mexico operates a number of programs around the state that address local efforts in various communities to empower individuals and develop communities to better serve individuals with developmental disabilities.  Community development efforts are underway in Socorro, Roswell, Anthony and southern Dona Ana County, and Farmington.  Outreach to self-advocates and People First chapters is on going around the state.
